Over the Age Limit? How a Skilled Physiotherapist Secured PR Through the FNQ DAMA

We were approached by a highly experienced physiotherapist who was eager to stay in Australia permanently. She was 48 years old—just above the standard age limit of 45 for most employer-sponsored permanent visas.

Despite this, we knew her case had potential.

She was working in a regional area of Queensland, and her employer was supportive and willing to sponsor her. We began researching visa pathways that could accommodate her situation and found a great fit: the Far North Queensland Designated Area Migration Agreement (FNQ DAMA).

Not only was her occupation—physiotherapist—on the FNQ DAMA list, but this agreement also offers age concessions, allowing applicants up to 55 years old to apply for permanent residency through the Subclass 186 visa.

We guided her employer through the DAMA endorsement process, secured the labour agreement, and ultimately lodged her 186 visa under the DAMA stream.

Although DAMA applications involve multiple steps and take time, they’re often the right solution for skilled workers who don’t meet the standard criteria—especially those over 45.

Her permanent residency has now been approved, and she’s continuing her career in regional Queensland with long-term stability and peace of mind and exceptional experience as a physiotherapist being offered to the local community.

If you are over the age limit but working in a regional area, get in touch with AustraliaMigrate. A tailored pathway like DAMA might be the solution you’re looking for.
